Learning tracks

Five tracks and eighteen modules. Each module states its hours, and each track states who it is for and what you will be able to do at the end. Fees depend on the format and the group size and are quoted in writing before anyone commits.

How to choose a track
Tracks are ordered by what they assume, not by what they cost. If you are unsure, say so on the form and we will work it out on the placement call. Joining a track above your level wastes your fee and the group's time, so we would rather move you than take the booking.
01

Financial analysis and feasibility

The track the firm's own analysts are trained on. It ends with a feasibility study you have built yourself, start to finish, and defended in front of the group.

92 training hours 4 modules

Reading a set of accounts

18 training hours

The three statements and how they connect, accrual against cash, and the standard places a reader is misled by accounts taken at face value.

Ratio and trend analysis

20 training hours

Ratio families, common size statements, segment and trend work, and the limitation that belongs to each ratio you quote.

Building the operating model

26 training hours

Assumption blocks a reviewer can trace, a three statement model that balances, scenario switches and sensitivity tables.

The feasibility study

28 training hours

Market sizing, cost build up, discounted cash flow mechanics, payback, and writing the document so a reader who was not in the room can follow it.

Who the track is for

Analysts, finance staff, and anyone who has to turn a business idea into a defensible set of numbers.

By the end of the track you can
  • Produce a feasibility study a third party can review
  • Trace every figure in a model back to its assumption
  • State the limits of your own analysis before someone else does
02

Business valuation

The three approaches, the arithmetic behind each, and the documentation a valuation report needs in order to survive being read by someone who disagrees with it.

78 training hours 4 modules

Approaches and when each applies

16 training hours

Income, market and cost approaches, what each assumes about the asset, and the circumstances that rule one of them out.

Discounted cash flow in practice

24 training hours

Forecast horizon, terminal value, the weighted average cost of capital and where the sensitivity actually sits in the result.

Multiples and comparables

18 training hours

Selecting a peer set honestly, adjusting for size and structure, and the disclosure a multiple requires to mean anything.

Writing the valuation report

20 training hours

Scope, basis, assumptions, limiting conditions and the sections a reviewer turns to first. Report structure is treated as part of the method, not paperwork after it.

Who the track is for

Finance staff, advisers and founders who need to understand how a number was arrived at, not only what the number was.

By the end of the track you can
  • Apply each approach and say why you chose it
  • Build and defend a discounted cash flow
  • Write a report that states its own limiting conditions
03

Accounting and reporting

From the double entry upward. For people who arrived at finance from somewhere else and need the mechanics in order rather than in fragments.

74 training hours 4 modules

Double entry from first principles

20 training hours

Journals, ledgers, the trial balance and the close. Worked entirely through exercises, with a full month recorded and closed by every participant.

Standards and treatment

22 training hours

Revenue, leases, provisions and impairment: what the standard requires, what it leaves to judgement, and how that judgement is documented.

The monthly pack

18 training hours

Variance analysis, indicator selection, and writing the commentary that turns a table into something a manager acts on.

Preparing for the audit

14 training hours

Working papers, the evidence an auditor asks for and why, and the habits during the year that make the audit short.

Who the track is for

Staff moving into a finance role, graduates, and business owners who sign accounts they did not prepare.

By the end of the track you can
  • Record and close a month unaided
  • Apply a standard and document the judgement you made
  • Produce a monthly pack with written commentary
04

Finance systems and digital transformation

What happens when the numbers stop living in a spreadsheet. Selection, implementation and the reporting layer on top, taught from the finance side rather than the vendor side.

54 training hours 3 modules

Requirements before vendors

16 training hours

Writing down the process you actually run, not the one in the manual, and turning it into requirements a vendor can be held to.

Chart of accounts and controls

18 training hours

Designing a chart that still answers questions in three years, segregation of duties, approval limits and the audit trail.

The reporting layer

20 training hours

Getting data out and into a report somebody reads: extract design, reconciliation back to the ledger, and dashboards that do not quietly disagree with the accounts.

Who the track is for

Finance managers, controllers and project staff who will live with the system after the consultants leave.

By the end of the track you can
  • Write requirements a vendor can be measured against
  • Design a chart of accounts and its control set
  • Reconcile a dashboard back to the ledger it came from
05

Finance for founders

For people building a company who have to speak the language of the people reading their numbers. It teaches preparation and documentation. It does not introduce anyone to anyone.

50 training hours 3 modules

The numbers a young company must hold

16 training hours

Unit economics, runway arithmetic, the difference between a booking, revenue and cash, and the records that have to exist from month one.

Building the plan

20 training hours

A financial plan built from operating drivers rather than a growth percentage, with the assumptions written down where a reader can argue with them.

Presenting to a financial reader

14 training hours

Structuring the document, choosing what to show, and answering questions about a figure you produced. Preparation only: we do not arrange meetings or make introductions.

Who the track is for

Founders, small business owners and the first finance hire in a young company.

By the end of the track you can
  • Build a plan from operating drivers
  • Explain the difference between your revenue and your cash
  • Answer questions on a figure without improvising
Scope declaration

What the academy provides, and what it does not

Seven clauses written to be read literally. They are drafted so that a learner, a regulator and an advertising reviewer come away with the same understanding rather than three different impressions.

1

Qimah-academy Academy provides training. It delivers courses, sets exercises, marks them and issues a certificate recording the hours a learner attended and the assessment they passed. That is the entire service offered on this site.

2

The academy does not provide investment advice. Nothing taught, written or said by an instructor is a recommendation or an opinion on the merits of buying, selling or holding anything. Instructors decline personal financial questions and refer them to a licensed adviser.

3

The academy does not receive or manage money other than course fees. It holds no client funds, operates no accounts on anyone's behalf and takes no commission from any provider of any financial product.

4

The academy does not present investment opportunities and does not introduce learners to anyone. Where a course covers how to prepare a plan or a report for a financial reader, it teaches the preparation and stops there.

5

No course, page, instructor or member of staff states or implies a future financial outcome for any learner. Figures used in class are worked examples chosen to demonstrate a method.

6

A certificate from this academy records training. It is not a professional licence, not a university qualification and not a permit to carry out any regulated activity. Courses covering valuation prepare a learner to understand and check a valuation; they do not make anyone an accredited valuer, which is a separate matter for the competent authority.

7

This website takes no payments. It has no checkout, no card field and no payment provider on any page. Course fees are settled with the academy directly after a written quotation.

Questions

Asked before enrolling

No. The academy teaches courses and nothing else. Instructors will not answer questions about a learner's own money or holdings, however the question is phrased, and will redirect it to the general principle being taught. The full scope declaration is on the about page and repeated as clause 2 of the terms.

We will not answer that with a number, because nobody honestly can. A course teaches a defined body of knowledge and the skills listed under each track. What a learner does with that afterwards depends on their own work and on circumstances none of us control.

Practising consultants from qimah-academy Financial Consultancy, teaching the work they do rather than a syllabus they read. The instructor leading your group, and what they work on outside the classroom, is named in the joining details you receive in writing before the first session.

Not for the accounting and reporting track, which starts from double entry and assumes nothing. The other tracks state what they assume, and the placement call exists to check that fit before you pay rather than after.

It records the track, the hours you attended and the assessment you passed, and it is verifiable with the academy. It belongs in a professional file. It is not a professional licence, not a university qualification and not a permit to practise a regulated activity. Clause 6 of the scope declaration says this in full.

Both. Each scheduled group is announced with its language of instruction and the workbook is supplied in that language. Technical terms are given in both throughout, because the documentation you meet at work is rarely in one language only.

The fee depends on the track, the delivery format and the group size, and it is quoted to you in writing before you commit to anything. This site takes no payments and has no checkout, so nothing can be charged from here.

Yes. Any track or workshop can run for one organisation, at our campus or theirs, with the case material rewritten around their sector. Attendance and completion records are supplied for the training file.

Start with a placement call

Send your details and we will call to find out what you actually do at work, settle which track fits, and send the fee and the dates in writing. No charge for the call and no obligation after it.

Training only Educational training only. No investment advice. No investment services and no funds managed. No guaranteed financial outcomes.
